Sir George White with the Boxkite
G1942. Sir George White the Bristol entrepreneur, with his new venture the Bristol Boxkite on Clifton Downs on 14th November 1910. Crowds of eager schoolboys are crowded around the tail. One wonders how many of them would have been inspired to become aviators and lose their lives in the Great War to come some 4 years later. Sir George White, seen here on the right with his cane, was theChairman of the British and Colonial Aeroplane Company as it was then known. It was his vision that aircraft would one day be the transport of the world. He envisaged mass movement of people as was happenning with his trams.
